Adventure Tours - 07 Night SRI LANKA Challenge

Day 01
Arrival and transfer to Colombo. Explore the city of Colombo.

Day 02
Leave for Bandaragama our adventure base located by a tributary of the Kalu Ganga. After an initial look around the property select a mountain bike of appropriate size and leave for a 02 hours ride through the rich low-country landscape. The ride is on flat tracks that follow a riverside trail across the Paraduwa marshes. Riding through tiny hamlets, experiencing rural life of the rubber taper and coconut seller.

After lunch leave for a 01 to 02 hour Canoeing excursion on the “Kalu Ganga” – River of Black Water.

We start our programme on a small tributary of the mighty Kalu ganga, which wends through simple rural villages, forest and plantations. Some stretches will be on narrow canals crowded with water lily and reads competing to survive with water monitors and water birds. Proceed until you come out at the wide open Kalu Ganga, a great place for a dip, for those adventurous few…!

Proceed to Kitulgala the film location of David Lean’s masterpiece “The Bridge On The River Kwai”. Today Kitulgala is an excellent area for adventure activities.

Day 03
01 to 02 hour, White Water Rafting excursion on the Kelani River. This short but exhilarating excursion is ‘Level 03’ and is suitable for most people between the ages of 08 and 60.

Proceed to Maskeliya to a small roadside guesthouse located at the base of Adam’s Peak The Guesthouse offers very simple accommodation. All rooms have attached bath with hot and cold water.

After dinner begin the climb of the sacred mountain ‘Adams Peak’. Climb through the night in order to reach the summit by dawn for a once in life time sunrise…….. if not cloudy. (The pilgrim season for Adams peak is December to May. During this time thousands of pilgrims climb to the summit every night. The pathway is lit and the experience is a cultural treat. During the rest of the year the path way is not lit and there are no pilgrims, however the beauty, serenity and adventure of Adam’s Peak remain. We use battery operated torches for the climb.)

Day 04
Descend peak to Guest house for shower and rest After late breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya visiting a Tea Plantation and Factory to watch the process of turning the raw green leaf into the familiar black / brown final product.

Optional 02 hour sunset walking tour around Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya is the heart of Sri Lankan hill country. It is the home of the famous Ceylon Tea and the rolling mountains are a carpet of velvety green tea plantations, interspersed with gushing streams and tumbling waterfalls. The salubrious climate, misty glens and the decidedly British character make Nuwara Eliya a must on any Sri Lankan travel itinerary

Day 05
Leave for the Hill Capital Kandy.

Kandy a lovely city, the Hill Capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings retains an aura of grandeur, which time has not affected. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its center, it is the site of the renowned "Temple of the Tooth" and the Royal Botanical gardens home to one of the best collections of Orchids. Kandy and its satellite villages are the centre of the islands handicraft industry and its traditional dances are the most spectacular in the country.

After a brief look around Kandy proceed to our campsite located in the Knuckles Range of mountains. In the evening settle in at the campsite and explore the surrounding countryside. Or simply relax and enjoy the breathtaking vistas of the Knuckles range.

Day 06
Trek the Knuckles. The days trek will take you to a small village which is only accessible by foot. A trek of approximately 03 – 04 hours through scrub jungle and forests will bring you to the little farming village of Meemure, deep in the Knuckles Valley. The trek is on rough trails and a few streams need to be forded en route.

Break at the little village shop in Meemure for a cup of hot tea, sweetened with “juggery”, made of coconut sap.

After a short break explore the village – See and appreciate the simplicity of life enjoyed by its people. Swim in the cool mountain water of a stream which rushes by the village.

Continue trekking (Approximately 02 hours); climb out of the valley from Meemure Village back to our campsite / hotel.

Day 07
After a camp breakfast leave for Negombo, a seaside village located approximately 37 km north of Colombo on the west coast of the island.

Day 08
Departure transfer to the Airport.
